A few intriguing updates about a pair of forthcoming Jeff Buckley biopics just surfaced, including new cast members, recording details, and other info. First up, Variety reports that English singer-songwriter Kate Nash will join Anthrax’s Frank Bello, Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, Bill Sadler, Frank Wood and others for Greetings From Tim Buckley, a Brendan Fletcher-directed film about the days before a 1991 tribute concert for Jeff Buckley’s father, which he has said inspired the launch of his solo career. While it has yet to be disclosed who Nash will play in the film, she undoubtedly has the singing chops to perform musically in the flick. Get acquainted with her songs via the official video for her biggest hit so far, “Foundations,” below.
In other Jeff Buckley biopic news, a second, as-yet-untitled film that stars Reeve Carney — of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark fame — has revealed its plans for adapting Buckley’s music, which was permitted for use by his mother, Mary Guibert: Carney, who is an accomplished singer-songwriter in his own right with a band going by his last name, will re-record Buckley’s songs for the film’s soundtrack — presumably lip-synching for scenes in the movie. Given that Joaquin Phoenix’s interpretation of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line employed a similar process, this would be a strong direction to take, we’d say. As it stands (especially taking the stars and mother-approved soundtrack into consideration), the latter biopic will definitely be one to catch when it arrives next year.

Lucinda Williams unleashed her first-ever official music video this week, taking the opportunity — after years of potential videos failing to come to fruition — to honor her late manager, Frank Callari (who also managed Ryan Adams, among others), in the song “Copenhagen”: a tune about the day she heard the tragic news of his untimely death in 2007. Dave Willis, of Cartoon Network’s Squidbillies fame, brought some levity to the material by animating Williams’ relatively literal account of that fateful, snowy, homesick day with a tale of an immortal robot.
ealed info on the forthcoming release of the follow-up to Lungs, as well as our first taste of the Florence Welch and co.’s sophomore LP: “What the Water Gave Me,” an epic gospel-tinged tune that builds to a climactic finish before reaching well beyond five minute in the coda-comedown. Re-teaming with Paul Epworth (who produced “Cosmic Love,” “Blinding,” and various other cuts off Lungs), the album, which has yet to be titled, is in its final stages of completion.
