Watch: Josh Ritter On Jimmy Kimmel Live

August 17, 2011

Josh Ritter and his Royal City Band stopped by ABC last night to promote Ritter’s latest LP, So Runs the World Away, by performing a cut off that record and older tune “Kathleen” for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Watch the 8-piece, Bruce Springsteen-endorsed band — complete with saxophone — take on a rousing rendition of “Rattling Locks” below.

In other news, his debut novel, Bright’s Passage, just landed a coveted spot on Oprah’s Summer Reading List. You can catch a preview of the book, which is a western set in the U.S. after World War I, by downloading the first chapter for free on Ritter’s site. Noah & the Whale Cover Pixies – “Where Is My Mind?”

August 16, 2011

Charlie Fink and Tom Hobden of Noah & the Whale stepped in for the Vaccines’ Tom Cowan, who had lost his voice, for a relatively faithful cover of the Pixies classic “Where Is My Mind?” on Triple J radio the other day. As fink explained in the interview, he’s always loved the song but chose it for the show largely out of necessity, as it was one of the few cover tunes he “sort of” knew the lyrics to. Regardless, his dry, deep tone fit the choice quite pleasantly for their reverent take.

Watch a video of their perfomance below:

Meanwhile, Noah & the Whale recently added another jaunt through Europe to their tour itinerary for October. You can find the new dates on their website here.

SuperHeavy (Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, More) Release “Miracle Worker Video

August 16, 2011

SuperHeavy — the new supergroup comprised of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, Eurythmics co-leader Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A.R. Rahman —  unleashed their first music video today in the form of “Miracle Worker,” a reggae-tinged, danceable tune that soundtracks the ensemble singing in the city before a crowd assembles for a performance on a stage in the street. Check it out below:

SuperHeavy’s self-titled, 12-track debut — aka a “mad alchemist type experiment,” as Stewart, who also has a new solo record available, described it — arrives on September 20.
