Video: Red Hot Chili Peppers – “The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie”

August 17, 2011

John Frusciante is gone and Anthony Kiedis now dons an unsettling mustache, but the new music video from the Red Hot Chili Peppers definitely brings plenty of the old RHCP SoCal spirit back to the table. Doing their best Beatles of Venice, CA impression, Flea, Kiedis, Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer filmed a rooftop performance of their new single, “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,” last month, complete with seagulls flying overhead and waves crashing on the horizon.

We still, admittedly, miss Frusciante quite a bit, but I have to give the guys credit for pulling together some fresh, inspired material after all these years. Check out the Kreayshawn Marc Klasfeld-directed clip below.

Jeff Buckley Biopic Stars Reeve Carney

August 17, 2011

A second film about the life of late, great singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley will begin production this fall — this time with access to Buckley’s entire catalog and archives, thanks to his mother, Mary Guibert. Today, just a few months before the Jake Scott-direct film, producers announced their choice for the lead (a role Brad Pitt unsuccessfully campaigned for years ago): Reeve Carney, a musician and actor perhaps most famous for starring in Bono and the Edge’s Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

“We are excited to have found in Reeve the perfect combination of musical prodigy, impish charm, innate intelligence & sensitivity to play Jeff,” said the director in a statement.

While we can’t yet speak to Carney’s acting abilities — not to mention his alleged “impish charm” and “innate intelligence” — it does appear the kid can sing the part convincingly enough. Nobody could imitate Buckley’s actual vocal performances, I’d say, but if someone were to try, Carney seems like a wise choice. Watch him in action below:

Wilco Share “Art of Almost” Teaser

August 17, 2011

We still have over a month before Wilco’s eighth LP, The Whole Love, arrives in full via their own dBpm Records, but our second official (non-live) taste of the record has arrived in the form of some exciting studio footage of the band recording the opening track, “Art of Almost.” Dubbed simply “Almost” when it hit Jeff Tweedy and Co.’s official YouTube channel earlier in the week, the clip reveals at least one shredding guitar solo from lead axeman Nels Cline, a few sampled delay effects, syncopated rhythms, and Tweedy singing a tantalizingly truncated lyrical part.

If debut single “I Might” was a bit too similar to their last effort, Wilco (The Album), something tells us “Almost” will be your cup of tea, as it appears to showcase the band’s experimental prowess they displayed on their eternally awesome Summerteeth and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot records. So, without further ado, check out the latest glimpse of The Whole Love below:
