Download: Soulja Boy, Matt & Kim, Andrew W.K. – “I’m A Goner”

August 17, 2011

In support of Converse’s new “Three Artists, One Song” project, hip-hop star Soulja Boy, NYC duo Matt & Kim, and jack-of-all-trades Andrew W.K. have teamed up for an original tune called “I’m A Goner.” Rather than collaborate on each part of the song as a quartet, each artist took over specific duties with Soulja Boy tracking a verse in Miami after Matt & Kim recorded the main chorus section. Later on, they all met up at a Brooklyn recording studio with W.K. to complete work on the collaboration. The result is a catchy, danceable cut that we’ll surely be hearing all over the radio and in the form of a music video they filmed in an abandoned hospital in New Jersey.

Here’s hoping more of these “Three Artists, One Song” tunes feature an unlikely collaborative team, as the results always make for a worthwhile listen at worst or, at best, a certified jam. You can download and stream “I’m A Goner” below:

Bon Iver & James Blake to Release “Fall Creek Boys Choir”

August 17, 2011

*Update: Their new song is here!

Not only will next week bring us some long-awaited new material from the great Tom Waits, but a potentially epic collaboration between two of the most buzz-worthy falsetto-singing indie songwriters around will arrive as well: “Fall Creek Boys Choir,” a new release from Bon Iver (aka Justin Vernon) and London’s James Blake, is due out on August 24th. News of the team-up came early this morning via Blake’s Twitter.

Further details have been left deliberately cryptic, of course, but we’ll keep you posted when their debut collaborative effort hits the Web. In the meantime, revisit Bon Iver’s gorgeous piano-backed take on Bonnie Raitt and Blake’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You” below:

Green Day – “Amy” (Amy Winehouse Tribute, Live)

August 17, 2011

In addition to a slew of artists to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse — such as Lou Reed last week — following her tragically premature death in July, Green Day premiered an original song they penned recently in honor of the late singer. “Amy,” a heartfelt musical eulogy to Winehouse, was first performed last week at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, California along with a number of other brand new songs from the Berkeley trio.

Hear frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sing the reverent tune, backed only by his electric guitar, below:
