Adele, Patti Smith Cover Bob Dylan for Tribute Compilation

October 21, 2011

Patti Smith honored Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” with her own take over the summer and now the pair will appear alongside others on the tracklist to a forthcoming tribute album. Titled Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International, the set arrives on November 22, complete with new and previously released recordings by the aforementioned singers, as well as My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthews Band, Lucinda Williams, Rise Against, Sting, and — perhaps the most unlikely addition — “Tik Tok” singer Ke$ha.

Adele’s take on Time Out of Mind‘s “Make You Feel My Love” made the cut, though it has long been a fan favorite for the British singer ever since her stunning rendition was released on her debut album, 19.

Notably, Smith (aka the Godmother of Punk) and Ke$ha both chose the same Dylan tune for the set: “Drifter’s Escape.”

Video: Feist Black Cab Session

October 20, 2011

We saw Feist perform for BBC viewers (and the web, of course) on Later… with Jools Holland earlier this week, but here she is in a much more intimate — yet still English — setting singing “The Undiscovered First” in the backseat of a London taxi for the Black Cab Sessions. Leslie Feist didn’t take on the tune with just an acoustic guitar, though, as a few of her touring backup singers, from a trio called Mountain Man, piled into the car for the ride as well.

Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger Prep HBO Pilot

October 20, 2011

Mick Jagger might be an unlikely figure to step into the cable television series world, but given his famous partner on the project, this might not be coming completely out of the blue. Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese (who directed that show’s series premiere and serves as an executive producer) have teamed up with the Rolling Stones frontman for a pilot that HBO is considering picking up. According to Rolling Stone, Winter, who is also a Sopranos alum, has written the script, which is centered around a fictional record executive in the ’70s. (We suppose that’s where Jagger’s expertise comes in handy.) Also, the star of the show reportedly has a major cocaine problem. So, yeah, they should be able to cover that territory as well.

The show has not yet been officially picked up, but multiple sources say HBO is nearing a deal. Scorsese and Jagger have worked together before, of course, most notably on the 2008 Rolling Stones concert film Shine A Light. This is an unexpected late-career project for Jagger, but an intriguing one nonetheless. We’ll keep an eye out for further details as they surface.
