Wilco to Stream The Whole Love Tomorrow

September 3, 2011

We’ve been showered with previews from Wilco’s forthcoming 8th LP, The Whole Love, for a few months now, but the day in which we get to hear the record in full is finally imminent. Tomorrow, Jeff Tweedy and friends will unleash a free stream of the LP on their website for just 24 hours, unveiling their latest collection in a manner that’s similar to past efforts, such as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot‘s infamous Internet buzz-induced breakthrough a decade ago. Stay tuned to http://wilcoworld.net/ at 12 o’clock Central for the big show.

Video: St. Vincent Plays Tom Waits Cover, “Surgeon” Acoustic Takes

September 3, 2011

Not only can St. Vincent’s Annie Clark pull off an unhinged, electric guitar-strapped take on Tom Waits (as we saw in July during the Raindogs Revisited tour), but she has an unplugged take in her Waits arsenal as well. Clark stopped by Spin‘s offices recently for an acoustic set, in which she revisited Strange Mercy cut “Surgeon” and “Tango Till They’re Sore.” All this while she was busy unveiling a brand new official video and returning to the Late Show with David Letterman in promotion of the new record.

Check out two videos from her performance below:

Video: Thurston Moore on Letterman

September 1, 2011

Tonight, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore made his second late-night appearance in support of his new Beck-produced solo record, Demolished Thoughts, taking “Benediction” (the song that was once the LP’s title track) to the Late Show with David Letterman. Performing alongside harpist Mary Lattimore and violinist Samara Lubelski, Moore brought his lovely ode to nuanced romance to the Ed Sullivan Theater, complete with lightly brushed drums and interwoven acoustic guitars. Watch his performance above (via Audio Perv).
