Video: Pearl Jam on Fallon – Olé

September 9, 2011

Eddie Vedder and co. stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, promoting a number of projects commemorating the iconic grunge outfit’s 20-year run. Following up their PJ20 festival over the weekend, in support of their latest archival release, and in anticipation of Cameron Crowe’s forthcoming documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty, they unveiled a brand new song: “Olé.”

In addition to rocking out with fresh material, Vedder returned to take part in a humorous jab at last year’s BP oil spill, which was definitely not his first protest tune against the oil giant. Watch both “Olé” and the hilarious Fallon-assisted “Balls in Your Mouth” bit below:

Stream: The Horrible Crowes – Elsie

September 9, 2011

Brian Fallon’s new side-project from his main band, the Gaslight Anthem, is finally here to stream in full following an incredibly promising 30-second snippet of “Black Betty & the Moon” that was debuted earlier this summer. Drawing inspiration from the likes of 24B-faves Tom Waits and PJ Harvey, the Horrible Crowes’ Elsie is a wonderfully eclectic set of tunes, in which Fallon and Ian Perkins have conjured up an amalgam of influences that ultimately leads to their own signature sound. Decidedly dark, at times bleak, and with honorable tinges of hope, this set comes replete with hummable melodies and choruses adorned with monstrously memorable hooks. Upon first listen, we’re finding this to be an excellent stop-gap before the new Gaslight record, at worst, and, at best, a sign of great potential for a new long-term direction. You can hear the entire 12-track effort below:

Lana Del Rey – Blue Jeans

September 9, 2011

The first new tune from Lana Del Rey ever since “Video Games” first caught our eye arrives in the form of “Blue Jeans,” the B-side to Del Rey’s brand new 7″ single starring the aforementioned breakout jam. Complete with an official video featuring found footage, retro film clips, and Del Rey herself singing in all of her Hollywood sad-core glory, “Blue Jeans” delivers on the promise of early cuts, such as “Diet Mtn Dew,” “Kinda Outta Luck,” and — of course — “Video Games.”

The new single doesn’t hit shelves until October 7, but today you can hear both sides in the clips below:
