Jack White & Insane Clown Posse – “Mountain Girl”

September 17, 2011

Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope are back with yet another cut from their surprising collaboration with Third Man Records mastermind Jack White: “Mountain Girl,” in which the trio set Mozart aside for a country-inspired ditty, breaking out the pedal steel and a shuffling beat. Basically, we’re hearing ICP/TMR, The Unplugged Edition. This odd tune arrives as the B-side to their so-insane-it’s-brilliant single “Leck Mich Im Arsch.”

Hear “Mountain Girl” below (via CoS):

Meanwhile, White has plenty of other collaborations on the way that are a bit closer to what we’ve come to love from the former White Stripes singer: a debut LP with the Black Belles, a new Lanie Lane single, a tribute to U2, and  — of course — the return of the Raconteurs.

Coldplay – Paradise

September 12, 2011

At this stage, more than half of Coldplay’s forthcoming album, Mylo Xyloto, has reached our ears in one form or another. But here’s the second official single: “Paradise,” complete with a few stadium-ready choruses from frontman Chris Martin and co., a lean, mean arrangement from producer Brian Eno, and plenty of hummable hooks. Preview the tune:

Meanwhile, Martin has revealed that Rihanna contributed guest vocals to the forthcoming set: “The album is designed as a whole piece,” he told The Sun. “It has boy and girl lead characters and top of our list for the girl part was Rihanna… but it took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her.”

In the end, the band mustered up the strength to ask the pop star, resulting in her work on “Princess of China.” While the studio version of that cut has yet to surface, you can preview a live version thataway. Brace yourselves, people, for the winter of Coldplay.

Video: Paul Simon Sings “Sound of Silence” at Ground Zero

September 12, 2011

Legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon brought out one of the biggest hits of his 5-decade-long career today in honor of the victims of the 2001 9/11 terrorist attacks on the 10th anniversary of that tragic historic day. Performing Simon and Garfunkel’s enduring classic “Sound of Silence,” Simon’s appearance at Ground Zero in New York City has been described as one of the most poignant, reflective, and somber moments at the memorial event.

In the video above, you can see why by watching Simon’s heartfelt tribute in full.
