Kathleen Edwards: Voyageur Tracklist

October 16, 2011

As longtime fans of Kathleen Edwards, we’re thrilled to see that the blogosphere has finally jumped on the bandwagon with news that Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon has co-produced her latest record, Voyageurs. Our first taste of the album, “Change the Sheets,” was as gorgeous and promising as you might expect from a singer-songwriter boasting the consistent back catalog Edwards has produced thus far. But January 17 will bring the full 10-track set, complete with appearances by Vernon, Megafaun’s Phil Cook, Peter Wolf Crier’s Brian Moen, (Ryan Adams’ recent studio guest) Norah Jones, and others.

We’ll let you know as soon as another cut hits the web, but here’s the album art (above) and tracklist (below) for now:

Voyageur Tracklist

02. Chameleon/Comedian
03. A Soft Place To Land
04. Change the Sheets
05. House Full of Empty Rooms
06. Mint
07. Sidecar
08. Pink Champagne
09. Going To Hell
10. For the Record

Cosmopolis Soundtrack Details

October 16, 2011

Canadian indie rockers Metric will add another notable film to their soundtrack resumĂ© — which boasts recent contributions to Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and a theme song for Twilight: Eclipse — when they team up with Academy Award-winning composer Howard Shore for the score to Cosmopolis, a forthcoming adaptation of Don DeLillo’s 2003 novel of the same name. Directed by fellow Toronto-based Canuck David Cronenberg and starring Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson, Emily Haines and co. said the film’s “themes are right in tune with the overall mood of the world at the moment,” in an announcement on their website.

As of now, details are scarce (Cosmopolis is said to hit screens early next year), but we’ll update this post when the full tracklist and further info are available.

In the meantime, Metric coupled their soundtrack collaboration news with a teaser about their next album: “We’ve been working away on a new album at Giant Studios in Toronto and at Electric Lady in New York City,” they revealed. “We’re on the last stretch! Looking at a release date in early 2012 … Exciting!”

Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon Break Up

October 15, 2011

Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, one of indie rock’s most enduring couples, have announced their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. A statement from their record label, Matador, adds: “Sonic Youth, with both Kim and Thurston involved, will proceed with its South American tour dates in November. Plans beyond that tour are uncertain.”

Moore and Gordon married back in 1984, two years following the release of Sonic Youth’s self-titled debut. The band went on to release 16 full-length studio albums, most recently 2009’s The Eternal. This year, Moore released a solo album, Demolished Thoughts, which was produced by Beck.

This is sad news indeed (Moore’s account of how they met), but here’s hoping that the future of SY becomes less “uncertain” soon and that the pair will have happier days ahead of them, together or apart.
