Video: Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon: History of Rap 3

October 29, 2011

Justin Timberlake teamed up with his former SNL cohort Jimmy Fallon last night for the third installment in the pair’s excellent “History of Rap” series, in which the pair seamlessly burn through over a dozen hip-hop classics. None of these would be possible without the Late Night house band, the Roots, of course. For Part #3, Timberlake and Fallon covered LL Cool J, Run-D.M.C., Sir Mix-A-Lot, and 15 other artists, all crammed into a relatively short, nearly 5-minute segment.

Check out their latest “History of Rap” medley below:

Coldplay, Jools Holland Video

October 25, 2011

Chris Martin and co. stopped by Later… with Jools Holland tonight for live performances of two Mylo Xyloto cuts: “Charlie Brown” and “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.” Both takes adhered close to the studio versions from their Brian Eno-co-produced LP, with Martin setting his acoustic guitar and military garb aside for a dance-heavy take on the latter tune. Complete with sing-along choruses that reach for the rafters, exuberant onstage theatrics, and colorful stage lighting, solid television performances like these come easy for Coldplay, all while giving the new record’s sales numbers a definite boost.

If humble, solo acoustic tunes are more your speed, you might want to check out clips from Jools’ other guest, Ryan Adams. Otherwise, an anthemic Coldplay set awaits you below:

Ryan Adams, Jools Holland Video

October 25, 2011

Ryan Adams returned to Later… with Jools Holland tonight for his second appearance on the BBC in as many weeks, following a recent Songwriters’ Circle with Neil Finn and Janis Ian. For tonight’s performance, Adams brought out “Lucky Now,” the first song we heard off his latest album, Ashes & Fire, The performance was as heartfelt and pitch-perfect as we’ve come to expect from Adams, who also unleashed a poignant take on the tune for American audiences on Conan earlier this month.
