‘We Bought A Zoo’ Soundtrack Tracklist

November 19, 2011

Details and a preview track from Sigur Rós singer Jónsi’s forthcoming soundtrack to director Cameron Crowe’s forthcoming film, We Bought A Zoo, have surfaced — following this summer’s initial report of the collaboration. As it turns out, many of the cuts have been previously released by Jónsi, arriving this time either as a new version from last year’s solo album, Go, or complete with string arrangements penned by the excellent, indie rock-collaborating virtuoso composer Nico Muhly. There are two new songs, however: “Ævin Endar” and a track co-written by Crowe himself, “Gathering Stories.”

The Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson-starring flick won’t hit theaters until just before Christmas, but today we can preview one of the aforementioned new/original cuts. Enjoy the gorgeous “Gathering Stories,” a rare Cameron co-write, along with the full tracklist below:

Amy Winehouse Video, ‘Our Day Will Come’

November 19, 2011

Before the end of 2012 — the year in which Amy Winehouse’s life was tragically cut short at only 27 — the great yet troubled soul singer‘s first posthumous release will see the light of day. Dubbed Lioness: Hidden Treasures, the set comes complete with cuts from her unfinished follow-up to Back to Black, unreleased recordings dating back to the Frank era, her duet with Tony Bennett, and this: a cover of 1963 chart-topper “Our Day Will Come.”

Today, an official video arrived for the tune, which features pro-shot footage of Winehouse spliced with performance scenes and a few photos. It’s a poignant, reverent nod to the late songstress yet the clip comes so soon after her passing that, in a way, it makes the whole loss feel even more surreal. Check it out below:

White Stripes Reissues, More Announced

November 19, 2011

Third Man Records dropped news of their year-end release plans today. In other words: the holidays have arrived early, thanks to Jack White and friends.

First up, let’s get to White’s latest surprise collaboration: Walk Hard co-star John C. Reilly teamed up with Tom Brosseau and Becky Stark, respectively, for a pair of singles — covering the Delmore Brothers with Brosseau and Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner with the Lavender Diamond frontwoman. Next up is a spoken word release from actor/poet/playwright Edgar Oliver, due out later this month.

And now for the most exciting announcement around here: the latest release in White’s goal to reissue all of the White Stripes’ catalog will arrive in the form of the following 7″ singles: “The Big Three Killed My Baby” / “Red Bowling Ball Ruth,” “Lord, Send Me an Angel” / “You’re Pretty Good Looking (Trendy American Remix),” “Candy Cane Children” / “Reading of the Story of the Magi” with “Silent Night”, and — last but no least — “Hello Operator” / “Jolene.”

Not a bad addition to those “Lafayette Blues” / “Let’s Shake Hands” singles and first three Stripes LPs, eh?

TMR’s so-called “Winter Bounty” wouldn’t be complete without some analog gear, though. In addition to the aforementioned vinyl, they will be including a belt-driven turntable manufactured by Crosley, which features a USB port, FM transmitter, and stereo speakers.

So yeah, this loot is at the top of our Christmas list. (Here’s hoping they consider selling new 4-track tape recorders to supplement my analog recording setup in the future.) In the meantime, check out cover art and more details thataway.
