Bruce Springsteen Plots 2012 Tour, New Album

November 21, 2011

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will carry on following the tragic death of the great Clarence Clemons this summer. In the first official news update since The Boss’ eulogy for Clemons, Springsteen and co. revealed a few exciting bits about their 2012 plans, namely: a new album is in the works and tour dates will be announced shortly.

“We want you to know that the music is almost done (but still untitled),” they said, adding: “we have almost settled on the release date (but not quite yet).”

Meanwhile, the European leg of next year’s tour — running from the “middle of May until the end of July” — will be revealed later this week, while further Stateside gigs and other worldwide dates are on the way as well.

It’s been a sad year for the iconic rock group, but it’s great to hear that they’re persevering with new music, not to mention we’ll get yet another chance to catch their inimitable stage show.

Video: Florence & the Machine on SNL, 2011

“Shake It Out”

“No Light, No Light”

Florence + the Machine stopped by Saturday Night Live last night for their second appearance on the classic sketch comedy show in as many years. For both performance segments, Florence Welch and friends took on cuts off their brand new sophomore album, Ceremonials, unleashing singles Shake It Out” and “No Light, No Light” for the late-night TV masses. As with their 2010 debut on the program, Flo and co. brought the house down (and record sales up, most likely), proving they’ve earned every bit of the hype catalyzed by 2009’s Lungs and its subsequent standout live treatment.

What’s more, Welch co-starred in a comedy bit titled New Jack Swing Thanksgiving, singing a holiday-themed joke song dubbed “The Adult Table” as Flo Doubt. In case you missed their triumphant SNL return, the aforementioned sketch can be revisited at the link above, while the pair of musical segments are embedded above.

Laura Marling Debuts New Song, ‘Master Hunter’

November 20, 2011

Following in the footsteps of “Pray for Me” and the tentatively titled “I Was An Eagle,” our favorite British singer-songwriter debuted another new piece at recent tour dates: “I am a master hunter,” Laura Marling declares in the refrain. “I cured my skin and nothing gets in / Nothing as hard as its chest.” While the song has been performed at more than one show so far, we now have a nice clip of the tune — possibly called “Master Hunter” — from a recent gig in Berlin.

Here’s hoping this one ends up on the follow-up to A Creature I Don’t Know, a record that remains one of our favorite LPs of the year. In the meantime, soak in a live preview below.

In other news, Marling and our other hero, Ryan Adams, filmed an episode of Live at Abbey Road set to air next week. As always, we’ll keep you posted with highlights once they arrive.
