Young Adult Soundtrack Tracklist

November 26, 2011

The writer-director team behind Juno return this winter with Young Adult, Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman’s new Charlize Theron-starring film about a woman revisiting her hometown with the hope of reuniting with an ex. While the trailer certainly looks promising enough — not to mention Reitman can do no wrong lately — it’s the soundtrack that has piqued our interest the most so far. For those of us who grew up in the 1990s, this set is a pretty great nostalgia fest: Veruca Salt, Lemonheads, Cracker, and a bunch of alt favorites from the era all make an appearance.

What’s more, Mateo Messina has put his own instrumental take on a few even more famous songs by the likes of Beck, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and the Foo Fighters for the film’s score.

So, without further ado, here are the songs you’ll most likely be longing to revisit after catching this flick in December.

Dan Auerbach Producing Dr. John Album

November 26, 2011

This summer’s SuperJam at Bonnaroo won’t be the only collaboration between rock piano legend Dr. John and the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, as news arrived today that the pair are recording an album together in Nashville. According to Jambands, the 71-year-old New Orleans icon — born Malcolm John Rebennack, Jr. — will release the LP next year under his stage name, Dr. John. Auerbach is producing the record, which will be co-mixed and engineered by Collin Dupuis.

What’s more, they’ve enlisted quite the impressive lineup of backup musicians, such as Daptone regulars Leon Michels and Nick Movshon, in addition to Brian Olive and Max Weissenfeldt. (Something tells me that the “Lonely Boy” singer will be contributing a few guitar riffs as well.)

Few other details are known at the moment, as the pair are still working on the LP in Tennessee where they began putting tunes to tape back in September. In the meantime, let’s enjoy a little preview via this clip of their live team-up in June:

Florence & the Machine, ‘Take Care’

November 25, 2011

Florence & the Machine stopped by BBC’s Radio 1‘s Live Lounge last night, not only promoting their hype-worthy sophomore LP, Ceremonials, but also paying homage to Drake’s new hit record, Take Care. In addition to original songs “Shake It Out” and “No Light No Light,” Florence Welch and Co. took on the title track to said Drake LP, a smash single featuring fellow chart-topping star Rihanna. While there were no guest stars on Welch’s version, she did come armed with a string quartet and plenty of vocal power to carry the track.

Fortunately, today we have some nice video footage of this excellent performance:
