‘Is Your Love Strong Enough’ – How To Destroy Angels

December 10, 2011

We’ve heard their collaboration with Karen O on a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” as well as 6 instrumental tracks from the film, but today one of the most anticipated recordings from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ score to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has arrived: “Is Your Love Strong Enough?”, a cover of Bryan Ferry’s 1985 contribution to the Ridley Scott-directed film Legend. For this cut, Reznor and Ross teamed up with their group How To Destroy Angels, a trio featuring Reznor’s wife, Mariqueen Maandig, on lead vocals.

So, without further ado, get acquainted with the closing track to their epic 3-hour score below:

Spiritualized: Sweet Heart Sweet Light Tracklist

December 7, 2011

Spiritualized announced details for their forthcoming LP, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, this morning, including the record’s release date and tracklist. Arriving on March 19th of 2012, the 10-track set has been in the works for at least two years. Recording sessions occurred in Wales, L.A., and Reykjavik, Iceland before the British group took their time mixing the album at home for a year. In a press release, singer Jason Piece commented on the motivation behind the collection:

When you make a record, it has to be the single most important thing in your world. This time around, I wanted to do something that encompassed all I love in rock ‘n’ roll music.

You can preview new material debuted live over at the Guardian today here and here, while the full tracklist is below:

Rock Hall of Fame Inductees: Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses, More

December 7, 2011

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have announced next year’s inductees: Guns N’ Roses, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, Laura Nyro, and the Faces/Small Faces will join the prestigious Rock Hall in an induction ceremony set to air on HBO in April of 2012. Also included in the honors will be producing legends Glyn Johns (who produced one of our favorite albums of the year, Ashes & Fire), studio recording pioneer Tom Dowd, and Cosimo Matassa. Meanwhile, bluesman Freddie King will be honored for his iconic role in the history of rock and legendary Monkees manager Don Kirshner will be given the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

All in all, the 2012 honorees aren’t too surprising, though it’s a shame that the Cure were left off, in our opinion. The big question that springs to mind as we anticipate the big event: will Slash and Axl Rose reunite for the Guns N’ Roses induction? They’ve had a contentious and, at times, litigious relationship ever since they split in the ’90s, but here’s hoping that iconic vocals/guitar duo can bury the hatchet… at least for one night.
