Karen O: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Working On LP4

December 12, 2011

From her Stop the Virgens opera to collaborations with Santigold, David Lynch, and Trent Reznor, 2011 has been a busy year of solo projects for Karen O. But fret not, Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans, the beloved art-rock trio that brought O into the spotlight are plotting a return. “I’ve been tinkering around on some new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music with the boys,” she revealed to the Sun in a recent interview.

Given that YYYs guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase are both involved in her opera, news that they remain on good terms — creatively and otherwise — doesn’t really come as a big surprise around here. What did catch us off guard of late is that O has quietly gotten married. She subtly dropped the news in a chat with US Weekly that was published last week, simply stating in passing, “I’m a married woman.” So, who’s Mr. O? Film/music video director Barnaby Clay.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ fourth LP — the follow-up to their excellent 2009 set, It’s Blitz! — is in the very early stages, obviously, but here’s hoping new material comes together quickly for a big 2012. Either way, we’re going to pencil it in for our most anticipated releases of the new year.

Video: Robyn on SNL

December 11, 2011

Swedish pop songstress Robyn brought a pair of singles from her 2010 Body Talk trilogy to NYC’s Rockefeller Center for an episode of the long-running sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live last night. Hosted by her ex-tour partner/fellow pop star Katy Perry, she unleashed inspired takes on two of her catchiest numbers to date, “Call Your Girlfriend” and “Dancing On My Own,” complete with costume changes, a few of her signature dance steps, and a set of perhaps the highest platform shoes to grace the 30 Rock stage since the ’70s. Without further ado, get your blood pumping by revisiting both of Robyn’s SNL performances below:

Trey Anastasio & The National Members Collaborate

December 11, 2011

Trey Anastasio has collaborated with a slew of famous musicians from the world of jazz, rock, funk and blues over the years, but now the Phish guitarist/singer is going the indie-rock route for his next solo project: Spin reports that Trey has teamed up with members of beloved indie bands The National and Mates of State for a new solo album — said to be a studio-focused effort that won’t necessarily translate to a live setting as seamlessly as the bulk of his previous output.

What’s more, Tarquin Studios — an awesome Bridgeport, Connecticut facility where the likes of Interpol, Frightened Rabbit, and the aforementioned acts have recorded lauded recent favorites — has been the home to Anastasio’s sessions over the past month.

Few other details are known at this time, as this LP remains in-progress, but in the meantime perhaps Trey will debut some new cuts on his upcoming orchestral tour. Either way, we can’t wait to hear these two worlds collide in the new year.
