Christopher Stopa: “Sit Still”

December 30, 2011

We had a feeling that something was amiss when, earlier this month, a track purported to be an unreleased Radiohead song by the blogosphere and beyond didn’t quite seem to fit the bill. As it turns out, “How Do You Sit Still/Putting Ketchup In The Fridge” — as it was dubbed — is actually a recording by Toronto musician/baker Christopher Stopa. CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront broke the news tonight, complete with an interview with Stopa himself detailing how he stumbled upon his own jam after one of the many “Unreleased Radiohead Song” headlines caught his eye.

The tune in question is titled more simply “Sit Still,” and is now conveniently available as an official stream with the rest of Stopa’s Morris Air EP. Check out CNN’s report and give Stopa his due by revisiting a track that is 100% not Radiohead yet a killer cut nonetheless below:

Bono, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard Busk for Christmas Eve 2011

December 25, 2011

For their third year in a row, a handful of famous Irish singer-songwriters have taken to their nation’s capital city for a Christmas Eve busking session on Dublin’s famed Grafton Street. As in 2009 and 2010, U2 frontman Bono, Damien Rice, and the Swell Season/Frames’ Glen Hansard were among the notable names to participate in this year’s annual sing-along event, performing many of their most recognizable original songs along with traditional tunes and cover material.

A number of video clips filmed from the vantage point of the massive crowd formed around each performance have begun to hit the web since last night’s holiday event. For a glimpse of the latest take on this heart-warming and festive Dublin tradition, check out a few highlights below (we’ll update with more standout moments when they become available):

Hunger Games Soundtrack Details

December 24, 2011

Not only have some intriguing details regarding what to expect from the forthcoming T Bone Burnett-helmed soundtrack to The Hunger Games arrived, but a preview of the highly anticipated set is here as well. First things first: Burnett’s film resumé — particularly his contribution to O Brother, Where Art Thou? — would be enough to guarantee that this will be one of the better OSTs of the new year. But take one look at a sampling of the album’s all-star lineup revealed today and that should further up the ante: Arcade Fire, The Civil Wars, The Decemberists, and pop/country superstar Taylor Swift. According to Reuters, all of these artists (and presumably more to be announced) are working on original songs with Burnett for the film, due out next spring.

What’s more, Swift’s contribution became available for purchase on iTunes today. With help from the Civil Wars as her backing band, “Safe & Sound” is a hushed, haunting gem upon first listen. In short, we’re looking forward to potentially hearing more of this type of nuanced material on Swift’s next LP.

In the meantime, more previews from the set are unlikely to arrive until it gets closer to the Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson-starring film’s March 2012 release. Enjoy the trailer for now:
