Following last year’s black-and-white video for “Lucky Now,” Ryan Adams returned today with the latest official clip for Ashes & Fire. “Chains of Love” finds Adams strumming through the string-adorned track on a rooftop, decked out in the black leather getup he rocked on Letterman and backed by an all-female band before heading to the countryside for some daytime fireworks — or pyrotechnics, depending on how the metal-loving singer-songwriter intended.
Complete with his patriotic-colored Buck Owens acoustic and some muted color filtering, this video brings his breakthrough 2001 cut “New York, New York” to mind a bit. (Perhaps a boost in television spins, à la the Gold era, is imminent.) Either way, here’s a fine way to revisit a tune off one of our favorite records of 2011.
