Bruce Springsteen: Wrecking Ball Tracklist

January 19, 2012

Details for Bruce Springsteen’s 17th studio album, Wrecking Ball, have hit the web just hours after news broke about the release of lead single “We Take Care of Our Own.” According to iTunes (via CoS and NJ.com), the Boss’ 11-track set will arrive in full on March 5th in the UK with a Stateside release date presumably on the 6th, complete with a pair of bonus cuts and the title track we first heard at the culmination of 2009’s pre-demolition Giants Stadium run.

*Update: Stream the entire LP above.

Opening song “We Take Care of Our Own” — a rousing call for unity in the face of our own mortality — is already available for purchase in some countries while the single should go live for the rest of the world shortly. In the meantime, get psyched for the return of one of our most treasured living songwriters with a preview of the album art above and tracklist.

SOPA: Trent Reznor, Radiohead, More Artists Oppose

January 19, 2012

As today’s blackout event staged by the likes of Wikipedia, Reddit, Google, and many other top online destinations comes to a close, a new group has taken  center stage in the legislative debate surrounding SOPA/PIPA: artists.

“We fear that the broad new enforcement powers provided under SOPA and PIPA could be easily abused against legitimate services like those upon which we depend,” wrote a coalition of musicians, writers, actors, and filmmakers that includes Nine Inch Nails/How To Destroy Angels leader Trent Reznor, author Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer, MGMT, comedian Aziz Ansari, and many more in an open letter to congress. “These bills would allow entire websites to be blocked without due process, causing collateral damage to the legitimate users of the same services – artists and creators like us who would be censored as a result.”

While not partaking in formally written opposition, Radiohead — a band whose late-career dominance arguably best illustrates the benefits of the web in its current state — offered a link atop their website with further information on how they feel these laws in their current incarnation would be harmful.

SOPA/PIPA detractors have made significant strides in fighting for their cause in the past 24 hours, with a notable number of senators and representatives distancing themselves from or outright opposing the proposed legislation, but we can undoubtedly expect this discussion to heat up and continue on indefinitely with such large costs at stake. We’ll keep you posted as further details develop, but in the meantime, check out the full letter posted by a host of our favorite artists here.

Bruce Springsteen “We Take Care Of Our Own” Single Imminent

January 18, 2012

Prepare yourself for the imminent return of iconic New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen, as the Boss has discretely posted order information for the first single off his forthcoming album, Wrecking Ball: “We Take Care Of Our Own,” a nearly 4-minute cut complete with striking black-and-white artwork, will hit Amazon (and perhaps other digital outlets) tomorrow, according to the listing.

Update: Full details on Wrecking Ball are here.

Produced by Ron Aniello, Rolling Stone reports that guest musicians for Springsteen’s 17th studio LP include Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave/Nightwatchman guitarist and activist Tom Morello, ex-Pearl Jam/acclaimed studio drummer Matt Chamberlain, and “a wide variety” of other supporting artists.

The biggest anticipation revolving around the new set, which features members of the great E Street Band, is how new material might reflect upon last year’s tragic loss of the great Clarence Clemons. Given what manager Jon Landau called the record’s “very pronounced spiritual dimension,” it’s safe to presume that an incredibly poignant moment from the Boss and friends is just around the corner.
