Video: Avett Brothers Cover Bob Dylan on Fallon

January 20, 2012

While we wait for the Avett Brothers’ forthcoming Rick Rubin-produced follow-up to I and Love and You to arrive, the boys stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for a take on “One Too Many Mornings” by their Grammys collaborator, the great Bob Dylan. This week’s performance from the Avetts follows an earlier Dylan-covering appearance by Blake Mills on Conan, both of whom are making the rounds to promote next Tuesday’s release of Amnesty International’s new charity tribute set, Chimes of Freedom.

For their rendition, the Avett Brothers stuck reverently close to the country-folk vibe of the original — which incidentally was Steve Jobs’ favorite Dylan cut — complete with traded off lead vocals between Scott and Seth that mirror the Johnny Cash duet version a bit. A fine take, for sure, but we must admit this just has us itching for that next Avetts LP even more. While we wait, let’s watch the North Carolina troupe honor a mutual hero below (via Audio Perv):
