For the past year or so, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has been sharing bits of info about a few high-profile collaborations that the band have in the works — even going so far as to attempt recruiting famous guests publicly on Twitter. Now this intriguing project, specific details of which were previously unknown and likely up in the air, appears to be coming to fruition with a number of tracks revealed to be in the can and more on the way.
“All these things happen within a couple of days,” Coyne told Rolling Stone of their team-ups so far with the likes of Nick Cave, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Edward Sharpe (with whom the Lips performed alongside in a cemetery last year), Neon Indian, and Yoko Ono. “You set up these [collaborations] in your mind and immediately get to work.”
In addition to the aforementioned artists, Coyne is attempting to recruit Ke$ha, Lykke Li, and Erykah Badu for the album, tentatively due out in April. We’ll keep an eye out for further details as this project progresses, but in the meantime, revisit the Lips performing “Do You Realize??” with Ed Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes below:
