A follow-up to Ween’s 2007 LP, La Cucaracha, isn’t on the immediate horizon, but fans of the duo’s lead singer (one of the most underrated vocalists around, in my book), Gene Ween, have a treat arriving this spring: Marvelous Clouds, Gene’s debut solo album under his given name of Aaron Freeman, was announced today. As AV Club reports, the forthcoming Ben Vaughn-produced set will be a tribute record to poet/songwriter Rod McKuen, who also has a song called “The Marvelous Clouds.”
Aside from the release date (April 10), further details are scarce at the moment, but for now we have a preview of Freeman singing an acoustic take on McKuen’s “Jean” below. *Update: Here’s the first single:
