Brian Fallon’s new side-project from his main band, the Gaslight Anthem, is finally here to stream in full following an incredibly promising 30-second snippet of “Black Betty & the Moon” that was debuted earlier this summer. Drawing inspiration from the likes of 24B-faves Tom Waits and PJ Harvey, the Horrible Crowes’ Elsie is a wonderfully eclectic set of tunes, in which Fallon and Ian Perkins have conjured up an amalgam of influences that ultimately leads to their own signature sound. Decidedly dark, at times bleak, and with honorable tinges of hope, this set comes replete with hummable melodies and choruses adorned with monstrously memorable hooks. Upon first listen, we’re finding this to be an excellent stop-gap before the new Gaslight record, at worst, and, at best, a sign of great potential for a new long-term direction.
