Oasis may have split two years ago, but the rivalry between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher remains just as heated as ever. While promoting their respective side projects, Liam’s Beady Eye and Noel’s High Flying Birds, the English rockers have been in a war of words over the cause of the demise of their famous former group. Now, after Noel told reporters that they broke up because Liam was hungover, wanted to promote his clothing line in Oasis tour programs, and threw a plum before “wielding a guitar like an ax,” Liam is suing his brother for libel for claiming they pulled out of that night’s V Festival gig due to the previous night’s alleged bender.
“That is a lie and I want Oasis fans, and others who were at V, to know the truth,” said Liam in a statement stating that he had been diagnoses with Laryngitis by a doctor. “I was gutted when I couldn’t play the gig because I didn’t want to let the fans down.” Later, he added, “I tried to resolve [the disagreement] amicably but have been left with no choice but legal action. All I want is an apology.”
Meanwhile, Noel just released the first taste from one of his pair of forthcoming solo albums. As for whether or not he’s checked out the Beady Eye record by his current legal foe, Noel respectfully told Rolling Stone: “I’ve obviously not sat down and listened to it as as an album, but I’m aware of all of the songs, and it’s all right.” Sounds to me like a guy capable of an apology if one is warranted, but, as always with these two, it’ll be interesting to see what unfolds.
