Josh Ritter — our favorite Bruce Springsteen-endorsed singer-songwriter in recent memory — has a follow-up to 2010’s So Runs the World Away in the works, but in the meantime, 6 new tunes recorded at an inspired 3-day recording session in Brooklyn this winter are on the way ahead of the forthcoming LP. Taking its title, Bringing In the Darlings, from the recurrence of the word “darling” in each tune’s lyrics, the half-dozen batch features cuts that don’t quite fit on the longer set.
We’re only two weeks away from the Darlings February 21 release date, but a preview is here today: “Why,” a fine acoustic tune with a gorgeously hummed outro that showcases an intimate feel we’re expecting to hear more of on the remaining tracks. You can give it a spin below and pre-order the collection in a number of bundle options over on Ritter’s site.
