Coldplay, Rihanna: Princess of China

With production by the great Brian Eno and a string of platinum-selling records to build on, the most anticipated track on Coldplay’s forthcoming LP, Mylo Xyloto, had less to do with Chris Martin’s latest set of heartfelt lyrics and memorable melodies or their experimental knob-twiddling pioneer; it was Rihanna’s contribution to “Princess of China,” a synth-drenched jam that hit the web over the weekend.

This one might be a bit more appropriate to the dance floor than as the seed of a sing-along anthem on Coldplay’s next stadium tour, but respect is certainly due here for the change of direction. Martin and co. have remained committed to treading new ground over the past decade and here’s further proof that their laudable forward-thinking efforts are paying off:
